Use A Smaller Plate To Lose Weight

Have you set a commitment for 2008 to lose weight? Millions of us have, and unfortunately, most will fail. There are many factors that affect your ability to lose weight but one of the biggest, if not the biggest, is overeating. Simply put, you gain weight by taking in more calories than you burn.

I was speaking with a friend yesterday who mentioned that on a recent cruise (with food available 24 hours a day) he used sandwich plates instead of dinner plates to try to limit overeating. He said, “I figured if I’m going to go back for seconds I might as well do it with a smaller plate”. What he found was that he would eat less overall by using a smaller plate. Even if he ate two platefuls of food on the smaller plate it was the same or less than one dinner sized plate. He also felt full sooner using the small plates.

So, if you are trying to limit the amount of food you eat, try using a smaller plate. It might help you feel full sooner and help you keep your calorie intake under control.

This is such an important tip! Over the last 2 months I’ve lost weight primarily by consuming smaller portions. If you are used to eating large portions of food, healthy or bad, cutting overall portions can easily cut your calories by half. When you combine this with even a mild exercise program, the results are amazing!
